Responsible play

Last updated 22 August 2026. 18+ only.

Betting with money you cannot lose is a bad idea on any cashier, licensed or not. BirrCheck is a guide, not a clinic and not a regulator. This page is the stop rules. It is not a second list and not a second payments table.

After 15 December 2025 there is no ELS sportsbook on the home grid. Offshore play is still play. Stakes can go to zero. There is no local licensed book to reverse a bad night. Read the ELS ban if you need the notice. Stay here if you need the human limits.

18+ means 18+

Do not follow gambling links from this site if you are under 18. Do not open a cashier for a younger sibling. Do not treat a school ID as a joke KYC. Offshore operators can ask for 18 or older and can still refuse you. Their refusal is not a puzzle for this site to solve.

If you are of age and you still should not be here (court order, self-exclusion at an operator, money that is not yours), leave. We cannot self-exclude you from BirrCheck because BirrCheck has no account. We can tell you not to use the partner cashier button. The partner cashier button, where it exists, is disclosed on About. This responsible page does not push it.

Set a limit before you open a cashier

Decide the ETB number you can lose before you tap a tile. Write it down. Treat that number as spent the moment you send it. If the cashier floor is 100 ETB on the cashier we checked or about 200 ETB on a public wallet guide, that floor is not a target. It is a minimum the operator printed. Sending the minimum still means you can lose the minimum.

  • Do not raise the number after a loss.
  • Do not raise the number after a win so you can “make it interesting.”
  • Do not split the number across three rails to feel like you were careful.
  • Do not borrow the number. Salary advances, friend’s Telebirr, and credit are not a bankroll.

The three-rail comparison exists so you can see that Telebirr, CBE Birr, and M-Pesa are pipes, not licences. It is not a menu of extra chances after you already lost.

When to stop

Stop when the limit is gone. Stop when the next stake would come from rent, food, medicine, school fees, or someone else’s wallet. Stop when you are hiding the app. Stop when you are awake because of a slip, not because of a match you care about. Stop when a win only means you can stay longer.

Signs it is no longer play

  • You chase the last debit with a larger debit.
  • You treat a blocked payment as an insult you must outsmart.
  • You lie about how much left the wallet.
  • Sleep, work, or a relationship is paying for the cashier.
  • You open a second brand because the first one said no.

If several of those are true, walk away. Talk to someone you actually trust: family, a friend who is not in the group chat that shares “sure odds,” a health worker you already know. We will not invent an Ethiopian gambling hotline with a fake 800 number so this page looks complete. A fake number is worse than no number.

A blocked wallet is a hard stop

If Telebirr, CBE Birr, M-Pesa, or a bank blocks a betting merchant, treat that as the end of the attempt. ELS told payment firms to interrupt betting money. A refusal can be that instruction working. This site will not teach a bypass. No agent number. No split push. No “try the other bank.” The how to bet in Ethiopia page includes the same stop. The Telebirr and CBE Birr pages do not hide it either.

Looking for a bypass after a block is usually chasing. Chasing is how a 200 ETB night becomes a month you cannot explain. Stop is the responsible action. It is also the only action this publisher will describe.

Help that is real, and help we will not fake

We are not the Ethiopian Lottery Service. We are not a clinic. We cannot take a self-exclusion that follows you across offshore brands. If an operator offers deposit limits, time-outs, or self-exclusion in its own cabinet, use those tools there. They do not live on this site.

If you want a public harm-reduction site in English, BeGambleAware is a United Kingdom resource. It is not an Ethiopian government helpline. It will not call Addis for you. It will not un-block Telebirr. It can still be useful reading about chasing, limits, and when gambling has stopped being a game. Use it as a foreign information site, not as a local emergency number.

Do not send ID photos to a stranger who claims to be “BirrCheck counselling.” We do not run that desk. Privacy detail is on Privacy. The site rules are on terms. The short table, if you still need names after this page, is the list. If you needed this page, you may not need the table tonight.

Money, time, and debt

Do not gamble to recover rent, a loan, or a Telebirr shortfall. A cashier after the ELS wipe is not a job and not a court of appeal. 100 ETB on a partner cashier we checked and about 200 ETB on a public wallet guide are floors, not a plan to get whole.

If you are drinking, exhausted, or angry at a blocked payment, do not open the next brand. That is the moment people look for a bypass. There is no bypass on this site. Go to sleep. The list will still be there in the morning.

Do not let a group chat vote on your limit. “Sure odds” messages are not a responsible-play tool. If the chat needs you to send now, that is pressure, not a match report.

18+. You can lose the money. If the next tap would be a chase, do not tap.
